Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples

The “frame” is one of the most important parts of a therapeutic relationship. It holds the place where we can do the work to help you grow. These policies and fees are what helps keep the frame in place and we can discuss more during the first session together.

Important
All professional fees are due at the time of service unless specifically arranged in advance. Additional fees will be assessed in the case of any balance beyond 30 days.
The only insurance plans with which I am currently contracted are: Cofinity/Denver Health Medical Plan, CU Anthem for medical students/residents/fellows. I do not contract with Kaiser, Cigna, BC/BS nor UnitedHealthcare or Aetna but some out-of-network benefits may be applicable depending on your plan.
Please check your eligibility, benefits and deductibles prior to scheduling; for those with plans I am contracted I will check e&b and submit claims on your behalf.
For those seeking out of network reimbursement from their insurance company this will be a separate transaction from the practice of Dr. Laura Freshman; by request, a superbill invoice can be provided. I do not work with any insurance if psychoanalytic treatment is indicated; all fees for psychoanalysis are out of network and fees are negotiated to monthly rates.
I REQUIRE 24 HOURS NOTIFICATION FOR ALL CANCELLED SESSIONS. ANY NO SHOW/NO CALL WILL BE BILLED AT FULL SESSION RATE. YOU CAN ALWAYS CALL/TEXT ME IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE UP TO 24 HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED SESSION AT 303-518-8111.
Insurance
The only insurance I currently accept is the Denver Health Medical Plan/Cofinity for Denver Health FT employees and CU Anthem for medical students, residents and fellows only. If you are interested in out of network reimbursement you can call your insurer directly to find out deductible amounts and if any percentage of the fee can be reimbursed. I can provide you with a superbill invoice to submit independent of the practice of Dr. Laura Freshman for reimbursement.
I recognize that many people are frustrated with not being able to utilize benefits for mental health treatment. Our current system has limitations to providers in terms of both parity and of the protection of confidential information, however. As a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist, I have been trained over decades to recognize that private information between a patient and therapist is just that: private. It is simply unacceptable to me to have to produce clinical information for review to justify an insurance company’s costs. I encourage potential patients to recognize that the slope is slippery if you are hoping to have our work remain private. The only time I would share any information would be with a court order or subpoena compelling that HIPPAA law can be legally overlooked in a specific case.
Office Policies/Fees
I offer once, twice or more weekly therapy. I do my best to offer regular times to clients and ask that you provide me with 24 hours notice for any cancellation as I cannot generally fill the hour left available on short notice. Without notice, you will be charged the full fee of the session due, even if you are a patient who utilizes one of the insurance I do contract with to provide psychotherapy treatment.
Social Media/Communication Policies
I protect the privacy of my patients. If you are a patient I suggest you do not go onto social media to search me in order to maintain your privacy. I will never accept a request on any platform from a patient and will not respond to any outreach. I do use texting as a way to communicate with patients, especially regarding appointments and rescheduling/emergencies. Social media is a public forum and our work is protected by privacy laws so the two do not mix. Additionally, I do not solicit nor respond to online reviews of my therapy practice or work from online business pages, former or current patients or potential patients as it is unethical and constitutes a breach of confidentiality.
I am available to all my existing patients by either text or phone call. Should you need to reach me, I will respond to either form of outreach within 24 hours. If you are a potential patient, I generally return calls within 72 hours. All existing patients are notified well in advance of when I am taking time off or am unavailable and generally I will still do my best to contact you back in the event of an emergency and/or provide you with information for an on-call clinician with whom I feel comfortable you contacting in my absence.
Terms of Privacy
All of your information is confidential with a very few exceptions:
-
Coordination of care with other health practitioners/mental health providers in which case you will be asked to sign a release of information authorizing that I communicate with another provider.
-
If there is reasonable suspicion for a patient/s committing either child or elder abuse
-
If there is reasonable suspicion for a patient’s committing harm against another person
-
If there is reasonable suspicion for a patient’s committing self-harm/suicidality
-
If there is reasonable suspicion for a patient’s downloading or accessing child pornography
Teletherapy/In Office
I offer both in person and online options for treatment. While it is ideal to find ourselves in a consulting space that holds the frame for our work I recognize that there can be limitations and am motivated to make psychoanalytic/psychodynamic therapy accessible. I see patients either in my office in the Cherry Creek area of Denver, Colorado or from my home office. I ask that if we meet online you agree to find a quiet and private place to join the session so that distractions are kept to a minimum.
